Neurodiagnostics refers to the various medical tests that are used to evaluate and diagnose disorders of the brain and nervous system. By identifying changes in brain structure and function, neurodiagnostic tests play a key role in detecting conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, brain tumors, stroke and other neurological diseases. As technology has advanced, neurodiagnostic methods have become more precise and noninvasive, allowing clinicians to better understand the complexity of the brain.

Neuroimaging

One of the most important tools in Neurodiagnostics  is neuroimaging. Advanced scanning techniques like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) produce detailed images of the brain and spine. MRI uses strong magnetic fields and radiowaves to produce clear images of soft tissue structures without emitting radiation.

This noninvasive method is well-suited for examining the brain and spinal cord. It can detect abnormalities in size, shape and integrity, helping physicians diagnose conditions such as brain tumors, stroke, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease. CT scanning also provides cross-sectional images but uses X-rays instead of magnetic fields. CT is commonly used to identify blood clots, hemorrhages and bone abnormalities. Together, MRI and CT have revolutionized our ability to visualize the inner workings of the brain.
